A niche for Drupal Commerce

Does Drupal Commerce have a future? Shouldn't we decouple our site as much as possible instead? This is an exciting question there's been much discussion about in the last year. I'm trying to demonstrate a use case for Drupal Commerce through the most recent project I worked in (https://freitag.ch).
